The situation before automation
The concrete plant's mixer and pump vehicles refueled freely from the on-site tank, and it was unknown how much fuel each vehicle took. Unauthorized vehicles being able to refuel eroded costs.
Since real fuel cost per trip/km per vehicle could not be calculated, pricing and efficiency analysis were unhealthy.
The PetroDATA approach
A vehicle-identification system was installed at the tank outlet; only defined vehicles could refuel within defined limits. Every refueling was booked to the vehicle automatically.
With per-vehicle consumption reports, real cost per trip/km became visible; unauthorized refueling was fully prevented.
